My wife and I have raised five children. Our older two graduated from the public schools; we home school the younger ones. We enjoy spending time with our family and friends, walking with our boxers, and re-exploring the state of Michigan. I grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Lakeview High School, but was in Atlanta for much of my education and career (I was a psychology professor at a small liberal arts college and owner of a private practice). My wife earned her graduate degree from Western Michigan University and we recently moved our family back to Michigan for the next chapter of our lives. I am a former competitive swimmer, triathlete, and YMCA swim coach. I enjoy following a variety of sports and cheering for my alma mater (WFU Demon Deacons). In my spare time I volunteer as a research coordinator for LifeWaters, a nonprofit therapeutic SCUBA training program for veterans and first responders with spinal cord injuries.
